Classic 550 two-door sedan. Equipped with few options, reclining front seats, a push-button AM radio, and (most likely) white-wall tires, Romney's Classic 550 was spartan at best. Still, there's a functional honesty in its almost Mercedes-like exterior design.

Over the years the car made its way to Texas. Before his death, Romney donated it to Chrysler, which purchased AMC from Renault in 1987. After that, the vehicle was sold to a museum in Northern California, where it was purchased by AMC enthusiast and Southern California resident Josh Ackerman. Eventually Ackerman needed the space, reluctantly placing a highly detailed ad on eBay recently.

Ackerman's ad didn't quite fly under the radar of Benjamin Preston, contributor to the Wheels Blog at the New York Times. The Detroit News
