Automotive Traveler Magazine: 2013 01 95 Years Of Chevrolet Trucks Page 4

At the end of the Thirties, Chevrolet used some novel methods to promote the brand, including a streamlined theater on wheels (above) that offered a sneak peak of the GMC MotorHome introduced 35 years later. And as part of the Arsenal of Democracy, it was variations of trucks like this 1 1/4-ton Chevrolet G506 (below) that helped win the war, especially in Russia.

As the United States shifted back to a peacetime economy after World War Two, Chevrolet introduced its all-new Advance Design trucks for the 1947 model year. Responding to changing tastes with a more comfortable cab and a wider pickup box (above), the design was so advanced it ran almost unchanged until its 1953 facelift. Chevy trucks were a staple on American farms, as illustrated in this 1950 ad by noted artist Peter Heleck.
