In second place was Steve Herbert's immaculate 1970 Buick GSX (Page 42), also a recently completed restoration. It must have come as a total shock to Herbert when his 1970 Pontiac GTO (a seven-year-old restoration pictured here, with LaChapelle on the left and Herbert holding the trophy) won first place in its class. The sweep cements LaChapelle's reputation as one of the country's premiere muscle-car restorers. The attention to detail--down to period-correct hang tags and pre-delivery materials--puts all three cars in a class all by themselves.

Catching the eye of photographer Richard Truesdell was the red 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 FHC (Page 37) owned by Ron and Donna Avery. It looked familiar, because it was featured in the episode of the hit television drama series Mad Men in which Sterling Cooper Draper's Lane Pryce was so overwrought at being asked to resign, that he tried to commit suicide via asphyxiation in his E-Type. Happily, when Pryce tried to start the car, the engine wouldn't turn over. Some might say that's no surprise, given Jaguar's reputation in the Sixties for being a bit temperamental.

Proceeds from this fantastic show benefit such organizations as the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Foundation and the Palos Verdes Art Center. Next year's event is scheduled for 14-15 September 2013. For more information, visit the Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance online.
