more costly aluminum. It also combines the utility of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo with the coupe-like proportions of the previously mentioned Mercedes-Benz CLS. It's a crossover of an entirely different sort.

Like all Audi models, the interior is a visual delight, with a premium look that sets a benchmark for its competitors to follow. Top-tier materials abound, every surface in perfect harmony with those that surround it. The seats are wonderfully supportive--heated and cooled to boot--and the quality of the leather is what you would expect of a car with a sticker price of $68,630.

The audio/navigational interface, called MMI in Audi-speak, is the best among its German competitors. Once the learning curve is passed, it is as intuitive as one can expect from a system that offers so many features. All functions are displayed on a bright 6.5-inch screen that extends from the top of the instrument panel. So that you keep your eyes straight ahead, the screen is augmented by a driver-information display nestled within the instrument cluster.

Speaking of features, the MMI system allows for downloading and overlaying Google Earth maps over the normal navigation system.
