Automotive Traveler Magazine: 2012 01 Fiat Forecast Page 3

Zagato coupe to the lineup, building it in Toluca.

The four-door MPV, to be called the Ellezero, is already slated to be built in a Fiat plant in Croatia. This is a highly efficient plant for Fiat, with low labor costs. To get the necessary production scale, I would expect all versions of the Ellezero to be built there and exported worldwide. (While the Ellezero will share many 500 styling cues, it will be built on an extended Panda chassis, making it impractical to build in Mexico, at least at first.)

The Zagato coupe would be a possible competitor to the MINI Cooper, with an Abarth high-performance version. And the MPV would indirectly compete against Ford's upcoming Focus C-Max.

More speculation. Considering the Zagato coupe was shown last year in Geneva, could it reach U.S. showrooms before the end of 2012? I think so. If it does, it could provide a stylish spark to 500 sales, positioned right above the three current coupe models, with the Abarth version of the Zagato coupe sitting between the just-launched coupe and the expected Abarth convertible.

The MPV? I see that coming to the States about a year from now, as a 2014 model.
