Travel News: The First World War Ski Tour

Alta Badia in the Italian Dolomites offers 80 kilometers of history and nature, along perfectly groomed slopes.

Written by AT Staff

Tired of the same-old, same-old European ski vacation? Consider schussing and zig-zagging your way through an important chapter in modern history on a special run in the Italian Dolomites this winter.

Winding around the Col di Lana Mountain, scene of many World War One battles, the Great War Ski Tour promises more than 80 kilometers of perfectly groomed slopes and beautiful backdrops.

Starting from the ski resort of Alta Badia and passing through the Campolongo Pass, you'll reach Arabba and then Malga Ciapela. From Malga Ciapela, take the lifts to the Marmolada glacier (lifts are included in the Dolomiti Superski skipass).

A Skibus transports you from Malga Ciapela to Alleghe, where you can ski to Pescul. There, another Skibus drops you at the Fedare refuge. Going up to the Averau, you'll ski down the Cinque Torri slopes. A bus at the bottom takes you to Mount Lagazuoi.

From the Lagazuoi, head back to Alta Badia, where you can continue by following the Ski Tour Lagazuoi itinerary.
